Meaning Probably the old 'Hayrester' or 'Hairster.' 'Hayre,' a garment made of goat's hair. Hayrester, a maker of hayres. Hayresters, workers in horsehair. The hair garment was seemingly worn for mortification of the flesh by nuns and other religious persons. Also the name could be comeing from old French 'hasteur,' a hastiler, one who superintended the roasts.
Local: Of the Ester or Estre. Not from Hester or Esther. Estres, the inward parts of a building, chnumbers, walks, passages in a garden. Hester and Easter seems to be modern imitative garbs of the word.
