Meaning The son of Guy. It appears to have prevailed in France very early as Guy, Guies, Guyon, and the feminine Guiette. The English diminutives were Wyot and Wyon. In the days of gunpowder plot and Guy Fawkes the name lost caste, and as a fontal title has never recoevered itself.
