Meaning The son of Lily. The diminutive Lillion (later Lilian) must have been in early use, as it is found as a surname in the Hundred Rolls. Also, local, 'of Lilley,' a parish in county Gertford, four miles from Luton; also, local, 'of Lilly,' a hamlet in the parish of Catmore, county Berkshire.
The arms of the family are azure, three lilies argent, whence probably the name.
