Last Name HORNBUCKLE

Summary/Contribute

Meaning Local: This looks uncommonly like a nickname, but it is probably an imitative corruption of Harbottle. It is found in counties Lincoln and Norfolk. In 1581 John Harbottle was bailiff of Yarmouth. Additional evidence in favour of this view is found in the fact that Arbuckle is one of the well known last names in Northumberland, where Harbottle lies.
